Concha Jerez

The artist Concha Jerez was born 1941 in Las Palmas (Gran Canaria) and is one of the few conceptual and multimedia artists in Spain, who has been successful in many European countries.

Until 1955, she lived in Africa and then moved to Spain. There she studied music (piano with Angel Arias) at the Coservatorio de Musica of Madrid and completed her high school diploma at Washington-Lee high school in Arlington, VA United States in 1959.

From 1959-63, she studied political science at the Facultad de Siencias Politica, Madrid and after that from 1964-65 she studied film in Paris. In 1970, she decided to work as an artist.

Since 1985, Concha Jerez also holds lectures, seminars and workshops at museums and universities. In 1992 she became the Professor of sculpture at the Facultad de Bellas Artes of the University of Salamanca.

Together with the composer and musician José Iges, with whom she works closely since 1985, Concha Jerez holds lectures, seminars and workshops, museums and universities. Their works, as reflections/actions of everyday life, appear on radio and television.

Since 1973, she had numerous exhibitions, performances and concerts in museums and galleries, such as the Modernes Kunstmuseum in Norköping; Círculo de Bellas Artes, Madrid; Schloß Solitude, Stuttgart; Museum Wiesbaden; Frauenmuseum, Bonn; Kunstverein, Ludwigsburg; Künstlerhaus, Graz; Galerie am Fischmarkt, Erfurt and she was shown at different media art and video festivals like Ars electronica, Linz; European media art festival, Osnabrück; Festival Internacional de Música Contemporánea, Alicante; Festivals de Navarra, Pamplona.

Her works can be found in many public and private collections.
